My grandmother loved to tell stories about her grandbabies when they were young, especially one about me being upset with Bill. Apparently, every time I asked for a new toy or more candy, my family would say, “Sorry Tasha, we gotta pay bills.” So finally, me as a frustrated toddler responded, “Who is Bill? And why does he get Evvverything?”
Well, as an adult I definitely know who “Bill” is now and you do too. However, I make sure that he doesn’t get a dime more than he’s owed by being organized. Dave Ramsey suggests using an envelope system for organizing your expenses. My strategy is to have separate accounts and direct deposits from my salary. I have a separate account that receives a direct deposit in the amount of my bills for the month. That account is not connected to my entertainment and play money account and I don’t have a ATM card for it. That way, when I’m having fun , I only have access to my “fun money” with my ATM card. This system works for me. If you haven’t already done so already, sign up for my newsletter and receive a free download of my Quick and Easy Guide to Budgeting. Leave me a message with your questions or how you stay organized so Bill can’t steal your joy.
